Field Service Technician

You will run customer-site visits on your own — installations, fault calls, upgrades, and maintenance on the smart-card, terminal, and embedded equipment behind ByteGurus systems. You own the visit from arrival to sign-off, including the diagnosis and the conversation with the site contact.
Key Responsibilities
- Own assigned site visits end to end: preparation, execution, acceptance, and sign-off.
- Diagnose hardware and connectivity faults on site and repair or replace to restore service.
- Commission new installations, including device configuration, firmware, and network setup.
- Carry out on-site acceptance testing against the agreed checklist and obtain customer sign-off.
- Work with remote support specialists to separate a device fault from a software fault.
- Write service reports good enough to be read months later during an audit.
- Manage spares, tools, and returns for your own visits.
- Brief site staff on safe day-to-day use of the equipment you have installed.
Skills & Qualifications
- 2-5 years of field service or on-site technical work with electronic equipment.
- Confident diagnosing a fault down to a replaceable unit without a script.
- Practical networking: IP configuration, switches, cabling, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Comfortable with device firmware, configuration tools, and serial or USB interfaces.
- Valid driving licence and readiness for regular travel to customer sites.
- Professional presence on a customer site, including where operations cannot be interrupted.
- Degree or vocational qualification in electronics, electrical engineering, or mechatronics.
Nice to Have
- Experience with smart-card readers, payment terminals, or kiosk hardware.
- Familiarity with embedded systems or industrial equipment.
- Occupational health and safety certification for site work.
- English good enough to read a manufacturer's technical documentation.
