We're looking for a senior engineering manager to lead a larger engineering group, usually through team leads rather than directly. You will own delivery across more than one team, build the leadership layer beneath you, and be judged on how the group performs over quarters rather than sprints.
Key Responsibilities
- Own delivery across multiple teams, including the cross-team dependencies nobody else is tracking.
- Manage and develop team leads and managers, not only individual contributors.
- Set the performance and progression bar for the group and apply it consistently across teams.
- Own headcount planning and run hiring at group scale, including for leadership roles.
- Handle the performance and organisational issues that individual leads escalate to you.
- Shape the group's technical direction with architects and leads without taking the pen out of their hands.
- Own the engineering practices that span teams: review standards, incident process, and quality gates.
- Report progress, risk, and capacity to leadership and client stakeholders in terms they can act on.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5-7 years of engineering management experience on top of a hands-on engineering background.
- Experience managing team leads or other managers, not only individual contributors.
- A track record of delivering multi-team programmes with real dependencies between them.
- Experience owning headcount planning and senior hiring.
- Enough technical depth to hold architects and leads to account on design decisions.
- Ability to run difficult performance and organisational conversations without postponing them.
- Clear communication with executive and client stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience scaling a team through a period of rapid growth.
- Experience restructuring teams around changed product priorities.
- A background in .NET, mobile, or frontend engineering before moving into management.
- Experience in a client-facing delivery environment.
