Position Overview

We are looking for a senior data engineer to design the pipeline and model architecture for a subject area and set the patterns the rest of the team builds within. You will take on the pipelines that are genuinely hard — late-arriving data, out-of-order events, backfills that cannot be run twice — and stay responsible for them in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design the data model and pipeline architecture for a subject area, and own the shape you chose.
  • Set the patterns others follow: layering, naming, idempotence, incremental strategy, and testing.
  • Build the hard pipelines — late-arriving data, out-of-order events, heavy backfills, and delivery guarantees that must hold.
  • Own reliability for the pipelines under your name: freshness targets, incident response, and the fix that stops recurrence.
  • Optimize cost and performance at platform level rather than one query at a time.
  • Review pull requests across the team with attention to correctness and failure modes, not formatting.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design review, and written guidance.
  • Agree producer-side data contracts with software engineering so an upstream change cannot silently break the warehouse.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5-7 years building and operating production data platforms.
  • Expert SQL and Python, with genuine software engineering discipline — tests, packaging, CI.
  • Deep warehouse and lakehouse modelling experience across more than one domain.
  • Kafka in production, including delivery semantics and schema management.
  • Airflow at scale and dbt at scale, with CI on model changes.
  • Kubernetes and Docker in production, on infrastructure managed with Terraform.
  • The ability to write a design document and mentor others through implementing it.

Nice to Have

  • Spark or Flink for large-scale or streaming transformation.
  • Lakehouse table formats such as Iceberg or Delta in production.
  • Data contract or data quality frameworks applied across teams.
  • Working alongside .NET or Go services as upstream data producers.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
