We're looking for a lead frontend engineer to own the interface layer of a product and the team building it. You will set frontend direction, stay in the code, and be accountable for delivery, quality, and the growth of the engineers in your workstream.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a frontend workstream: technical direction, delivery plan, and quality bar.
- Stay hands-on in React and Next.js, particularly on architecture and the hard interactions.
- Own the design system and the conventions every frontend engineer works within.
- Set performance and accessibility standards and make sure releases actually meet them.
- Negotiate API contracts with backend leads so the interface is not built out of workarounds.
- Run design and code reviews, and make the final call when opinions split.
- Grow the engineers in the team through one-to-ones, feedback, and deliberate work assignment.
- Work with design and product to make scope decisions that fit the delivery window.
Skills & Qualifications
- 7-10 years of frontend engineering experience with deep React and Next.js knowledge.
- Experience leading a frontend team while continuing to write code.
- A track record of building and maintaining a design system across more than one product.
- Strong performance engineering: measurement, budgets, and sustained improvement.
- Deep accessibility knowledge and the ability to hold a team to it.
- Experience giving direct feedback and helping engineers improve on the back of it.
- Ability to explain technical trade-offs to designers, product managers, and client stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience hiring and onboarding frontend engineers.
- Experience with micro-frontend or multi-application architectures.
- Experience working directly with client stakeholders.
- Contributions to open-source frontend projects.
