Position Overview

We're looking for a lead backend engineer to run a delivery workstream and the engineers in it. You will set technical direction for a set of services, stay hands-on in the code, and be accountable both for what the team ships and for how the people in it grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a backend workstream: scope, sequencing, technical direction, and delivery commitments.
  • Stay hands-on by writing and reviewing code on the hardest parts of the system.
  • Own service boundaries, data ownership, and the contracts between your services and everyone else's.
  • Run design reviews and make the call when the team cannot converge on its own.
  • Set engineering standards for the team: testing, observability, migrations, and operational readiness.
  • Grow the engineers in the team through one-to-ones, feedback, and deliberate work assignment.
  • Work with product to turn a roadmap into a plan the team can actually deliver.
  • Own the operational health of your services, including incident response and the follow-up afterwards.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of backend engineering experience with strong .NET / C# depth.
  • Experience leading a team's technical direction while remaining hands-on.
  • Deep microservices experience: boundaries, messaging with Kafka, and failure handling.
  • Strong PostgreSQL and Redis experience at production scale.
  • Comfortable owning Kubernetes-deployed services and the pipelines that ship them.
  • Experience giving direct feedback and helping engineers improve on the back of it.
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders without losing the substance.

Nice to Have

  • Experience hiring and onboarding backend engineers.
  • Background in fintech, payments, or another domain with hard correctness requirements.
  • Experience running an incident review that changed how the team works.
  • Exposure to Go or Node.js services alongside .NET.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
