We're looking for a lead test automation engineer to own the automation platform and the engineers building on it. You will set framework direction, decide where automation pays for itself, and be accountable for the confidence CI gives the whole engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the automation workstream: framework architecture, roadmap, and team direction.
- Stay hands-on in the framework code, especially the parts other engineers depend on.
- Set the automation strategy across unit, contract, API, UI, and end-to-end layers.
- Own CI gating policy in GitHub Actions: what blocks a merge, what runs nightly, and who responds.
- Hold a reliability target for the suites and treat flakiness as a defect with a named owner.
- Own test environment and test data strategy, including ephemeral environments.
- Grow automation engineers through one-to-ones, code review, and deliberate work assignment.
- Report automation coverage, runtime, and escape rate in terms leadership can act on.
Skills & Qualifications
- 7-10 years in test engineering, including ownership of both an automation framework and a team.
- Strong software design skills in TypeScript, Python, C#, or Java.
- Deep experience with browser and API automation at scale.
- Experience running large suites in CI with acceptable runtime and a low flake rate.
- Experience with contract testing or another approach to integration confidence.
- Experience giving direct feedback and helping engineers improve on the back of it.
- Ability to justify automation investment to engineering and product leadership.
Nice to Have
- Experience hiring and onboarding automation engineers.
- Experience with mobile automation across Android and iOS.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for ephemeral test environments.
- Experience running a performance or load testing programme.
