Position Overview

We are looking for a lead data scientist to own a workstream and the scientists in it. Much of the job is choosing which problems are worth the team's time and which should be declined — and then protecting the rigor of the work that survives that choice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a data science workstream: problem selection, sequencing, staffing, and delivery.
  • Decide which problems the team takes on and which it declines, and be able to justify both.
  • Coach the scientists on your workstream and run the design and method review practice.
  • Set the bar for statistical rigor and reproducibility, and hold it when a deadline argues against it.
  • Stay hands-on for the problems that need your depth rather than only reviewing.
  • Partner with ML engineering and product on what ships, how it is measured, and who owns it afterwards.
  • Turn business objectives into a research and measurement roadmap with real checkpoints.
  • Report outcomes to leadership honestly, including the work that led nowhere and why.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 7-10 years in data science, including leading a team or workstream.
  • Deep statistical and modelling expertise across several distinct problem types.
  • Proven judgment about which problems are worth modelling at all.
  • Ability to plan and sequence research work whose outcome is genuinely uncertain.
  • Coaching experience with scientists at different levels.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, including delivering a negative result well.
  • Awareness of what it costs to keep a model alive after launch.

Nice to Have

  • Building an experimentation platform or practice from the ground up.
  • Consulting delivery across concurrent clients.
  • Publications, open-source contributions, or teaching.
  • Domain depth in a regulated industry where methods must be defensible.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
