Junior Machine Learning Engineer

Remote Full-time 0-2 years Bachelor's Degree

Position Overview

We are looking for a junior ML engineer who wants to learn what happens to a model after the notebook. You will turn research code into tested modules, package models for serving, and follow a deployment through to the point where real requests hit it — with a senior engineer reviewing each step.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement well-scoped pieces of training and inference pipelines, with each change reviewed.
  • Package models for serving: containerize them, define the interface, and write the smoke tests.
  • Turn notebook code from data scientists into tested, reviewable Python modules.
  • Add logging and metrics to inference services so a prediction can be explained after the fact.
  • Run training jobs and track them properly — parameters, data version, and results.
  • Write unit tests for feature transformations and check that training and serving compute the same values.
  • Investigate failing jobs, reproduce them locally, and write up what you found.
  • Learn the deployment path — how a model actually gets from a branch to serving traffic.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 0-2 years in an ML, data, or software engineering role, or a strong internship.
  • Python fundamentals plus testing; comfortable working outside a notebook.
  • Working knowledge of scikit-learn and one deep learning framework such as PyTorch.
  • Understanding of train and validation splits, overfitting, and the standard evaluation metrics.
  • Git workflow and the basics of Docker.
  • SQL good enough to assemble your own training data.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative field, or equivalent grounding.

Nice to Have

  • MLflow or another experiment tracking tool.
  • Any exposure to Kubernetes.
  • FastAPI or a similar framework for serving a model behind an API.
  • Hands-on time with the ML services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
