Position Overview

We are looking for a junior data engineer to build pipelines under review and learn why the ones already running are shaped the way they are. You will write transformation code, add the tests that catch bad data early, and get comfortable debugging a job that failed at three in the morning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement well-scoped ingestion and transformation tasks, with a senior engineer reviewing each change.
  • Write dbt models and SQL transformations that follow the existing project conventions.
  • Build Airflow tasks for existing pipelines, including scheduling, retries, and sensible failure behaviour.
  • Add data quality tests — row counts, uniqueness, null checks — to every pipeline you touch.
  • Investigate failed pipeline runs, reproduce them locally, and escalate what you cannot resolve.
  • Write Python scripts to pull data from APIs and files, with error handling and safe re-runs.
  • Document each pipeline you build: source, schedule, owner, and downstream consumers.
  • Learn the warehouse model and the reasons behind how existing pipelines are structured.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 0-2 years in a data or software engineering role, or a strong internship.
  • Python fundamentals: functions, error handling, virtual environments, and writing a test.
  • SQL joins, aggregation, and CTEs, plus an awareness that a query has a cost.
  • Basic relational modelling and hands-on familiarity with PostgreSQL.
  • A git-based workflow and comfort having your pull requests reviewed.
  • Command line comfort and the basics of Docker.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative field, or equivalent grounding.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to dbt or Airflow, even from a personal project.
  • Any hands-on time on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Basic understanding of Kafka and streaming concepts.
  • Experience processing files large enough that the naive approach stopped working.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
