Position Overview

We are looking for a junior AI engineer to build features on top of foundation models under review. You will wire model calls into real services, build the evaluation cases that catch a bad answer before a user does, and learn quickly that the interesting part is everything around the prompt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement well-scoped parts of AI features under review: prompts, tool definitions, and retrieval steps.
  • Build and run evaluation cases, recording where the output is wrong and what kind of wrong it is.
  • Wire model calls into application services with sensible timeouts, retries, and error handling.
  • Build ingestion and chunking for retrieval sources, and check what is actually being retrieved.
  • Add tracing so a single request can be replayed and inspected end to end.
  • Measure token cost and latency for the features you touch.
  • Reproduce reported failures from real usage before attempting a fix.
  • Learn the guardrails — what the system must never do — and write tests against them.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 0-2 years in a software, ML, or data role, or a strong internship or project portfolio.
  • Solid Python, including APIs, asynchronous code, and error handling.
  • Understanding of how language models are called: context windows, tokens, and structured output.
  • Basic retrieval concepts — embeddings, vector search, and why chunking matters.
  • Testing habits, including the ability to write a repeatable evaluation case.
  • Git workflow and the basics of Docker.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative field, or equivalent grounding.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with an agent or orchestration framework.
  • Hands-on time with pgvector or another vector store.
  • TypeScript, .NET, or Go for integrating AI into an existing service.
  • Any exposure to prompt evaluation or red-teaming.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
