Remote Full-time 10+ years Master's Degree
Apply for this Position Position Overview
We are looking for a director of data science and AI to decide where models are worth building and where they are not, and to build the organisation that can tell the difference. You will own strategy, org design, budget, and the governance that keeps what ships defensible.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the data science and AI strategy, including a clear position on where a model is not the right investment.
- Design the organisation: team structure, the boundary between research, ML engineering and applied AI work, and career paths.
- Own the roadmap and budget across data science, ML, and AI, including compute and model spend.
- Hire and develop managers and leads, set expectations, and hold the bar when it is inconvenient.
- Set governance for models in production: review, approval, monitoring, and standards for responsible use.
- Partner with engineering, product, and commercial leadership to turn capability into something clients will pay for.
- Stop work that is not paying off, and be explicit with the team about why.
- Represent the practice externally in client conversations, partnerships, and hiring.
Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years in data science, ML, or AI, including leading managers.
- A track record of building a practice that shipped models into production, not only prototypes.
- Budget and capacity ownership, including compute cost.
- Technical judgment deep enough to challenge an architecture, an evaluation, or an overstated claim.
- Experience hiring and developing managers.
- Executive communication about uncertainty, risk, and realistic timelines.
- Master's degree in a quantitative or computing field, or equivalent depth of experience.
Nice to Have
- Leadership experience in consulting or professional services.
- Defining responsible-AI or model risk governance from scratch.
- Partnership and vendor negotiation at scale.
- Publication, teaching, or a visible presence in the field.
What You'll Gain
- Competitive salary.
- Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
- Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
- Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
- Private health insurance and flexible time off.
