Position Overview

We are looking for a data science manager to build and run a team, not to be its most senior analyst. Your work is hiring, growing people, protecting their focus, and being accountable for what the team delivers — with enough technical depth to review a method choice and know when a plan is wishful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of data scientists: one-to-ones, growth plans, performance, and career progression.
  • Hire for the team — define the profile, design the loop, calibrate the bar, and make the call.
  • Own team delivery: commitments, capacity, escalation, and being explicit about what gets dropped.
  • Set how work reaches the team and how it leaves: intake, prioritization, review, and handover.
  • Create the conditions for rigor — review culture, reproducibility, and safety in reporting a null result.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and client-facing teams on roadmap, staffing, and expectations.
  • Address performance problems early and directly rather than waiting for a review cycle.
  • Represent the team's work and its constraints to leadership, and protect the team from thrash.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years in data science, including direct people management of scientists or analysts.
  • Enough technical depth to review a method choice and an evaluation credibly.
  • Hiring experience: interview design, calibration, and closing candidates.
  • Delivery management under shifting priorities and imperfect information.
  • Real experience with performance conversations and individual growth planning.
  • The ability to turn business goals into team objectives people can act on.
  • Clear written communication with executives and engineers alike.

Nice to Have

  • Having grown a team from a handful of people to a larger organisation.
  • Managing a distributed team across time zones.
  • A prior senior individual contributor background in data science.
  • Running an experimentation or measurement function.

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary.
  • Fully remote — work from wherever you're most productive.
  • Annual learning budget for books, courses, and conferences.
  • Top-tier hardware and software tooling.
  • Private health insurance and flexible time off.
