We are looking for a BI architect to design how reporting works end to end — from the contract with upstream data through the semantic layer to what a business user finally sees. You will set the standards other teams build within, make the platform trade-off calls, and write them down so they can be argued with.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the target reporting architecture end to end: ingestion contract, warehouse models, semantic layer, and consumption.
- Set modelling, certification, lineage, and access standards that BI and analytics teams build within.
- Make and document platform trade-off calls — tool selection, materialization strategy, batch versus near-real-time.
- Define the boundary between warehouse transformation and the BI semantic layer so business logic has exactly one home.
- Design for scale and cost: storage and compute layout, aggregation strategy, and caching with Redis where it earns its place.
- Review designs from BI and data engineering teams and approve deliberate deviations from the standard.
- Architect governance: certification workflow, ownership model, row-level security and masking patterns, and audit trails.
- Produce reference architectures and migration paths that a delivery team can execute in steps.
Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years in BI and data, including owning architecture rather than only implementing it.
- Deep expertise across dimensional modelling, semantic layers, and warehouse internals.
- Architecture-level experience with analytics workloads on at least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Strong SQL and dbt, with the ability to reason about a query plan rather than guess.
- Governance and security architecture: row-level security, masking, catalog, and lineage.
- The ability to write an architecture decision record and defend the trade-off in review.
- Master's degree in a quantitative or computing field, or equivalent depth of experience.
Nice to Have
- Streaming analytics architecture built on Kafka for near-real-time reporting.
- Multi-tenant reporting architecture where client data must stay isolated.
- Large migrations away from legacy BI stacks.
- Cost modelling and FinOps practice for analytics platforms.
