keeplearnin: Learning Platform for Organisations and Instructors

Our learning product that brings courses, live classes, mentoring, certificates and corporate training into one platform. Built on MicroFrame; not live yet.

The problem

When an organisation wants to teach, it uses one tool for courses, another for live classes, and separate systems for certificates and payments. A learner's progress scatters across those tools, and the instructor cannot see in one place who has finished what.

Our approach

We built keeplearnin to bring those pieces into one platform. Each area is its own service: courses, video content, live classes, mentoring, certificates, gamification, social learning, corporate training, subscriptions and payments. State changes between services are published as events, so finishing a course shows up in the certificate and the company report at the same time.

What the platform does

Status: built on MicroFrame, not live yet.

keeplearnin is designed for training organisations and independent instructors to run their courses, live classes and certificates from one place. The areas built on the platform:

  • Course management: courses, sections and lessons; instructor and content management.
  • Video content: upload, encoding and encrypted playback.
  • Live classes: scheduled sessions and their recordings.
  • Mentoring: one-to-one sessions between a learner and a mentor.
  • Certificates: a certificate for learners who finish a course.
  • Gamification and social learning: services that support learning with game elements and connect learners with each other.
  • Corporate training: companies enrol employees in groups and follow their progress.
  • Subscriptions, basket and payments: single-course sales, subscription plans, campaigns and coupons.

How it is built

  • Each area is a separate .NET service; the services sit behind one API gateway over gRPC.
  • State changes go out to Kafka as events through an outbox; the money flow moves on events too.
  • Each service has its own PostgreSQL database.
  • The web interface is written in Next.js.
  • Licensing, event publishing (outbox) and shared infrastructure come from MicroFrame’s .NET core packages.
